The European Accessibility Act (EAA), which applies in Poland from June 28, 2025, extends digital accessibility requirements to the private sector. It covers, among others, online stores, online banking, payment terminals, e-books, and mobile applications. Companies must ensure compliance with standards such as EN 301 549 and WCAG 2.1 AA.
This means that services must be accessible to people who are blind, visually impaired, or have motor impairments, among others. Financial penalties apply for non-compliance with these regulations. An exception is made for micro-enterprises, which do not have to implement the EAA, though many SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) do.
For users, this implies more accessible websites, applications, and devices. Challenges include a lack of knowledge, a shortage of experts, and the costs of adaptation. Despite these difficulties, the EAA represents an opportunity to create services that are friendly to every user. Today, accessibility is not just an obligation—it is a competitive advantage.
