Digital Accessibility 2020. Report by FREE

In 2020, we worked intensively at the Foundation on issues related to digital accessibility, including implementation planned empirical research in the research project “Model of sharing content on the Internet in accordance with people with disabilities with applicable national and international law and the principles of WCAG 2.0 “(NCN 2016/22 / E / HS5 / 00434). Digital accessibility is a topic that we carry out independently and independently as a research project. The interest in the issues of digital accessibility in Poland and in the world has been clearly growing recently.

This is evidenced not only by new laws in the area of accessibility (such as the Act of April 4, 2019 on digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public entities, Journal of Laws 2019, item 848) and programs such as the national Program EU policies. The number of lawsuits related to digital accessibility in the US is clearly increasing (as described in the report, based on analyzes by other organizations), and the trend of the growing importance of the usability of design for the maximum number of users will also be observed in the coming years in other countries. The problem of accessibility became more tangible during the pandemic – due to the growing importance of IT tools for work, education and entertainment.

People with disabilities are also appreciated today for their ability to adapt to changing conditions and obstacles with great efficiency and creativity (more in this interesting article by Steven Aquino “On The Pandemic And Accessibility” on Forbes – https://www.forbes.com / sites / stevenaquino / 2021/01/04 / on-the-pandemic-and-accessibility /? sh = 3b2639215dee). Supporting electronic education, science and creativity as well as combating digital exclusion are the principles that also guide our organization. We have gathered information about some of the works performed by the team together with the experts with whom we cooperated in the report available here: [ Digital Accessibility 2020 in PL and EN. ].
